FME TVET Registration: How to Apply in 2025

The FME TVET initiative registration began in May 30th 2025, the first batch application portal is now close. Under this initiative, Tinubu administration has set aside N120bn to train and empower Nigerian youth through TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) programs with  ₦45,000 monthly grant for trainee and other benefits!

Here we will discuss how to register for TVET programs (FME TVET initiative) in 2025, and the application portal and courses.

What is FME TVET Initiative?

The FME TVET initiative is the Federal Ministry of Education (FME) Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) initiative launched by the Federal Government of Nigeria to equip and train Nigerian youths and adults with practical, hands-on skills that will prepare them for jobs, self-employment, and entrepreneurship.

The initiative focuses on hands-on training such as electrical installation, auto mechanics, welding, plumbing, fashion design, computer repairs, and more with a goal to reduce unemployment, empower the youth, and bridge the skills gap in Nigeria’s workforce.

In simple terms, the TVET initiative is about hands-on training in real-life skills you need to succeed—even without a university degree.

TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) is a training or school program that focuses on equipping students with skilled trades or hands-on skills (handwork) that can lead to real jobs, small businesses, and economic empowerment.

Available Program

There are two training programs to choose from, depending on your educational background.

  • 6 Months program – Short-Term Certificate (STC) Programme

This 6 months program is for individuals with little or no formal education that want to fucus on hands-on skill acquisition over six months.

The best part! No previous schooling or experience needed, you only need to apply with your National Identification Number (NIN) and Bank Verification Number (BVN).

The 6 months program best for those who want to learn a trade quickly and begin working or starting a business right away.

  • 12 months – Vocational Education and Innovation (VEI) Programme

This program is for applicants who have some form of basic education or informal training in a certain trade. The program duration is one year to deepen your technical knowledge. To apply, you’ll need one of the following:

  • A Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) certificate
  • First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC)
  • Or any certificate from non-formal learning (such as community or religious institutions)

This program are for those who want to expand on their existing skills or take their informal knowledge to a professional level.

Who Can Register for a TVET Program?

The FME TVET program is open to:

  • All Nigerians between 18 and 35 years old
  • School leavers (SSCE holders)
  • Unemployed graduates
  • Artisans and informal workers
  • Anyone with the required document and passionate about learning a trade and becoming self-reliant

The training will take place in all the accredited TVET training centers across the 6 geopolitical zones in Nigeria, federal and state technical colleges, and private vocational centers.

How to Apply for TVET Programs: FME TVET Initiative

The TVET registration is a straightforward process; to register, follow this step-by-step guide to apply:

1. Go to TVET Registration Portal.

Begin with visiting the TVET application portal  or follow the link: https://www.tvet.education.gov.ng/, now create and verify your account on the application portal, then choose your preferred trades and program (STC or VEI), fill in your personal details, and upload necessary documents.

2. Review and Submit

After filling all required sections, you will need to review your application on the summary page. Now carefully review your information to ensure all is accurate. Once you are done, click on Submit to submit your application into the FG TVET system.

Here is the FG TVET application portal registration process for a successful application.

Start Your Application

Begin by visiting the official FG TVET portal: www.tvet.education.gov.ng and scroll through the website to read important instructions, eligibility criteria, and available program details. This will ensure that you are fully informed before proceeding. Once you are ready, scroll back to the top of the page and click the “Apply” button to start your application.

Identity Verification

The first step in the FG TVET application process is your identity verification. You will be required to enter your National Identification Number (NIN) and date of birth. The system will verify your information within a few seconds.

This step helps verify your identity and ensures that the application is linked to your official records.

Creating Your Account

Once your identity is verified, you will be prompted to create an account using your phone number or NIN; you can update your NIN phone number if necessary. Next, enter your email address and click Proceed, and a one-time password (OTP) will be sent to you via SMS and email. Enter the OTP, create a secure password, and click Proceed once again. You now have an account on the portal.

Logging In

Use your newly created credentials to log in to your personal dashboard on the TVET portal. This will grant you access to your application profile, where you will complete the next steps.

Personal Information

Upon logging in, your basic personal details (such as your full name and date of birth) will be automatically shown in the form, based on your NIN data. You will then be required to provide additional details, including your home address, state, and local government area (LGA). Once these fields are filled out correctly, click Proceed.

Financial Verification

Next, the portal will request your Bank Verification Number (BVN) and account number. Select your bank from a drop-down menu and click Proceed. The system will verify that your bank records match your NIN details. This verification step ensures that any financial benefits or allowances tied to the program can be processed accurately.

Choosing Your Program

At this stage, you will be asked to select your preferred program or skill path. There are two main options:

  • 6-Month Program: Choose your preferred skill from the drop-down list and complete a short survey to help match you to the right training center.
  • 12-Month Program: In addition to selecting your preferred skill and completing the survey, you will be required to upload proof of education (such as a certificate or transcript).

Choose the program that best aligns with your career goals and proceed to the next step.

Review and Submit

After completing all required sections, you will arrive at the summary page. Carefully review your application to ensure all the information is accurate and complete. Once you are satisfied, click Submit. Your application is now officially entered into the FG TVET system.

Dashboard and Notifications

Upon submission, you will be redirected to your personal dashboard. Here, you can monitor the status of your application and view your unique application ID.

The system will notify you via SMS or email when you are successfully selected for a nearby training center, based on your selected skill path and location.

Final Steps

Once you receive your matching notification, follow the provided instructions to start attending your training program at the assigned center.

This will mark the beginning of your journey toward gaining valuable technical and vocational skills that can transform your future.

You can also apply by visiting the nearest accredited centers in your state. The Federal Ministry of Education partnered with various institutions across the states. In Akwa Ibom State, one of the training centers is Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic, Uyo. You can visit the center to apply for the program.

Another method to register for the program is by visiting the nearest training center; follow the steps below:

1. Obtain and Fill Out the Registration Form

The accredited centers will provide you with a registration form you can fill in with your details. You’ll be asked to provide:

  • Full name
  • Date of birth
  • NIN (National Identification Number)
  • Email and phone number
  • Bank details (for your grant disbursement)
  • Trade/Skill of interest
  • LGA and state of origin

Be sure to fill in all information correctly, especially your NIN and bank account details.

2. Choose Your Preferred Skill (Trade)

Another important thing during the registration is for you to choose your preferred trades from a wide range of in-demand skills.

Step 3: Submit

Once you finish filling the form, submit your application to the person there and wait for the next stage.

Once your application is successful, you’ll be invited to start the skill acquisition program.

As a student or trainee, you will receive a ₦45,000 per month support grant or stipend, paid directly to your bank account.
